Cancer Survivor’s Dinner, Relay for Life event to be held June 8 and June 11
"It feels great knowing you have made it another year cancer-free," Lickliter said.
Lickliter added the dinner is not only a celebration, but is similar to a family reunion. In 2009, 80 survivors and their families attended the dinner.
"You may only see these people one time a year, but it is the opportunity to talk to other people who know exactly what you have gone through to beat cancer,"
Registration for the dinner will begin at 5:30 with dinner at 6 and dancing afterward.
On June 11, area teams will meet at Lynn Camp High School for the annual Corbin Relay for Life.
Teams raise funds for cancer research and to fund Hope Lodge in Lexington by keeping at least on member walking around the track during a 12-hour period.
Lickliter said the event will begin with the "survivors’ lap" to recognize those who have overcome cancer. At 10 p.m. organizers will hold the lighting of the luminaries to remember those who have lost the fight. The luminaries are $5 each and may be purchased from any participating team or at the event.
"Last year, we raised about $50,000," Lickliter said. "We haven’t set a goal this year. We are just trying to raise as much as possible.
