Campbell’s Ceramics opens for business in downtown Corbin

Downtown Corbin has added a unique business to Main Street as the mother-daughter team of Kathy and Chelsea Campbell have opened the doors of Campbell’s Ceramics.

Chelsea and Kathy Campbell have opened Campbell’s Ceramics on Main Street in Corbin. The business features a variety of ceramic items that may be custom painted.

Located at 211 South Main Street, across from The Dixie Grill, the Campbells said their goals are to add another element to the downtown and to give area residents another creative outlet.

Patrons who come inside will see a large and eclectic mix of ceramic pieces ready to be painted along with a huge collection of ceramic molds.

Customers may browse the shelves and/or search books depicting the available pieces.

“There are thousands of molds,” Chelsea Campbell said explaining that pieces may be something simple like a Christmas ornament or snowman, to something elaborate like the dragon and castle in the storefront window.

“We have been trying to stock up on items, but we had so many people look in the window and tap on the door that we decided to go ahead and open,” Kathy Campbell said.

Customers pay an $8 studio fee, which includes the use of all of the available painting/glazing supplies as well as the firing of the pieces.

“If you want to do multiple pieces that day, you only have to pay that fee once,” said Chelsea Campbell adding that there is an additional charge for the piece itself.

“Simple pieces may be a couple of dollars,” she said.

Kathy Campbell said in addition to decorative pieces, the beauty of ceramics is that you may create functional pieces such as plates, canister sets and even cookware.

“There are so many pieces that would make unique and wonderful gifts,” Kathy Campbell said adding that painting ceramics is something even young children may do.

“It is a great way for a family to spend the day together,” she said.

In addition to families, Chelsea Campbell said it is a great activity for groups including church groups, bachelorette parties and even as part of a team building exercises.

For those interested in improving their ceramic skills, the Campbells will be offering classes on Thursdays, both in the mornings and evenings.

“The classes will be more step-by-step instruction,” Chelsea Campbell said.

In addition, for those who may be looking for a finished gift, the shop will offer finished pieces.

The shop is open 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1-5 p.m. on Sunday.
