Burke theft case going to grand jury
Did a former chief financial officer for the Whitley County school district, who was fired in June amid allegations of misappropriation of school funds, steal roughly $12,000 from the school district through electronic fund transfers, as school board officials contend, or is she being wrongfully prosecuted because she refused to implicate a former high ranking school official in criminal wrongdoing, as her attorney contends?

These are two of the arguments that a jury may ultimately be asked to decide in the case of Leigh Burke, who was arrested on Oct. 18 and charged with theft by unlawful taking or disposition all others over $10,000 and abuse of the public trust over $10,000.
