Burglary is a nightmate for Joshua’s Dream
A local faith-based drug rehabilitation facility was burglarized last week and police say about $16,000 worth of items were stolen in the process.
Joshua’s Dream – located in the old Best Value hotel building off Cumberland Falls Hwy. in Corbin – was broken into during the early-morning hours May 10 by thieves. Taken in the theft were several 19-inch television sets, computers, personal microwaves and various pieces of office equipment and tools.
“We do have some leads into this, but there is nothing confirmed at this time,” Corbin Police Capt. Tim Helton said Monday. Helton is the lead investigator in the case.
Corbin police received a call from Joshua’s Dream director at about 2:00 p.m. last Tuesday reporting the theft. Helton and Whitley County Sheriff’s Detective Chuck Davis scoured the building for possible entry points and found that the burglars had removed a vent to gain access to one of the rooms on the back side of the building.
“An air conditioning/heating unit had been removed from a room leaving an unoccupied space that was only covered by a vent cover,” Helton said. “The vent cover was removed and that’s how entry was gained.”
Helton said it is likely the thieves had some knowledge of the building and knew that that the air conditioner had been removed.
“It certainly is a possibility. I can’t say they did have knowledge, but it would appear that way.”
Helton said he believes at least two people were involved. The thieves used laundry baskets from the facility to move equipment to a getaway vehicle near the site.
Joshua’s Dream currently has no in-house patients, but does have a site director. Helton said the facility has housed patients in the past and will do so again in the near future.
If caught, the suspects responsible will be charged with third-degree burglary and felony theft, Helton said.
