Above, the home of Kevin and Sarah Hendrix, at 1212 Forest Circle Drive in Corbin, is encircled by police tape Saturday evening. Police are investigating a possible triple homicide at the residence.
Police have identified the three people found dead at 1212 Forest Circle Drive in Corbin Saturday, and they are investigating the deaths as likely homicides.
Authorities say Kevin Hendrix, his wife Dr. Sarah Hendrix and their daughter Grace, were found dead in the residence after Corbin Police Officer Steve Meadors went their Saturday afternoon to do a welfare check. Two of the deceased were found in the kitchen, and the other was discovered in a back bedroom. All three appeared to have been killed by gunshot wounds.
Corbin Police Department Public Information Officer Rob Jones said investigators have not been able to determine exactly when the three were killed, but the theory is that they died some time last Wednesday.
The couple’s son, Jason, was killed earlier Saturday morning following a high-speed pursuit and shootout with police near Baltimore, MD. He injured one officer and was fatally wounded by return fire. Those close to the family said the couple’s son hadn’t been seen at school since last Tuesday. The teen is considered a suspect in the killings..jpg)
Jason Hendrix was a member of the Corbin High School Junior ROTC program and attended Forward Community Church. His father worked in the office of Whitley County Circuit Clerk Gary Barton. Barton said Saturday night he was "devastated" by the news of the deaths.
While the names of the victims have been released, a possible reason or motive for their killings remains a mystery as police are still in the midst of investigating the case. Neighbors say the couple had three children in all together. The couple’s oldest daughter attends college in Georgia.
Sarah Hendrix also had a son from a previous marriage. Fred Thomas, now 20, lives in Lexington and attends the University of Kentucky.
Whitley County Coroner Andy Croley was called to the scene to assist in the death investigation sometime around 5:00 p.m. Saturday.
Jones said his department was contacted by Baltimore County Police at about 4:00 p.m. Saturday. That contact led to officers going to the home where they made the gruesome discovery.
According to reporters with the Baltimore Sun newspaper, the shootout in Maryland happened following a pursuit that started when police tried to pull over a speeding vehicle. It ended when the car, an SUV registered to an owner in Corbin, crashed into another car. When police approached the SUV, the driver opened fire and wounded one police officer. Six other officers returned fire and killed the gunman. Authorities are saying the person that was killed was Jason Hendrix. Read Baltimore Sun story here.
Sarah Hendrix was a professor at Union College in Barbourville. The school’s official Facebook page acknowledged her death Saturday night, along with that of her husband and daughter.
"The Union College community is heartbroken by the tragic deaths of Dr. Sarah Hendrix, her husband Kevin, and their daughter Grace. We have lost a member of our family, a wonderful educator, colleague, and friend. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Hendrix family at this time."
Corbin Police are spearheading the investigation. They are being assisted by multiple agencies including Whitley County Coroner Andy Croley, Kentucky State Police and the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department.

It is the medications! Countries like Canada for instance have already made Prozac illegal for teenagers. These drugs change the brain chemistry of patients making all sense of judgement, time, memory change. The reason this isn’t already established in fact is that the records are protected under doctor patient confidentiality. Parents! Stop putting your kids on drugs!!!!
Ask Questions. Why would Baltimore police say it was a middle age man they shot? Why do records show that Kevin Hendrix lived in Corbin, KY in 2011-2012 but now lives in Versailles, KY? Horrible tragedy, but discrepancies already in the official story…
The Ten Commandments are not required to be kept to go to heaven. They were the OLD TESTAMENT law, when Jesus came, a New Covenant replaced it. And the Ten Commandments were given to show humans that you CAN’T possibly keep them, it shows why we needed a Savior to do what we couldn’t do by ourlselves. The commandments of course are a great idea for order though.
What about the Ten Commandments!!!! Thou shalt not kill.
That’s exactly what I was saying… And it’s hard to believe that if he could murder his mother, father, and sister in an execution style then go to a youth event to hang out with friends and show no remorse or distress that there was ever a change in his heart. He knew what he did was wrong, but couldn’t care less. That is the mind of a serial killer or someone that doesn’t believe in heaven/hell or doesn’t care where their soul goes to.
If he was truly saved, he goes to heaven, no matter what he did afterwards. If his heart did not change after conversion, I would question whether he meant it when he got saved. Got does not TAKE IT BACK if you sin. We cannot stop sinning no matter what, it’s how we feel when we DO sin that tells us if our conversion were real or not.
As I said he could have continued to live in sin without repentance (never a change in mind/heart).
If he was saved and did God’s will after that and perhaps “snapped” for whatever reason, yes, he can still go to heaven. Heaven isn’t for those who do good, heaven is for those who accept what Jesus did on the cross FOR them. And repentance means to CHANGE YOUR MIND, to go from lost to saved, not be SORRY FOR SINS. You’re right, only God knows if he is saved for sure. I’m sure his pastor would know the state of his heart too.
I know how it works and I know there are probably serial killers in heaven. The thing is you just can’t say the prayer and say you are saved. There has to be a change in your life and in your heart. You must start living for Christ. Or do you think someone can say they’re saved and get baptized and continue to live in sin without repentance for the rest of their life and still go to heaven. There is no one on this earth that knows where the kid will spend eternity.
It said somewhere that Jason had recently been water baptized. A person gets baptized once they get BORN AGAIN. John 3:3. I don’t remember why I mentioned God’s ways and thinking, it had to do with something William said but of course, it would be nice to figure out what Jason was thinking, what all murderers think. But don’t for a minute think that just because someone kills, they automatically go to hell. You go to hell if you do not accept Jesus Christ as your savior.
God allows for us to have free will. God doesn’t want us to sin it is our free will and desires that lead us to sin. It’s not Gods ways that people are trying to understand. It’s the ways and mind of a psychopath that people are trying to understand. What makes you so sure Jason is in Heaven?
As a pharmacist I have seen and read about antidepressants such as prozac causing violent behavior in young adults. I hope they look into it.
My own young pharmacist friend hung herself and had recently been put on antidepressants.
This was totally out of character for her as well.
William, that was profound what you said. It’s so hard to think on the spiritual side and you’re right. They are in heaven together. It’s so so hard to see the non-physical side sometimes. Two very different perspectives and the Bible does say that NO ONE can understand God’s mind or ways.
Sophie,
Looks like Jason was a murderous coward with a death wish, and the Baltimore police granted it. His family is only guilty of loving and trying to raise a son. Kids today just feel entitled to everything and lose their head when they don’t get their way. This kid hunted his sister down and killed his parents execution style. He was a despicable human being. Sorry if that hurts feeling, but it’s truth. Jason didn’t care about who he hurt.
We may never know why. I tried to see his Facebook account but don’t see it. This is just so sad. Four lives gone for no reason. That poor remaining daughter. God help us all.
Looks like his family was trying to turn him into a murderer, they got their wish, their son is a murderer. Why else do you join the military? It’s like joining law enforcement, you are issued a weapon so you can use your weapon on people.
This is a sad story to hear about and I hope those who knew the family can find peace in knowing they are with God.
I do have to say though that I despise the way this “Newspaper” felt it needed to mention Jason was in the school JROTC program and used a picture of him in his uniform. Frankly I’m appalled they would try to show a connection between a troubled kid that murdered his family and the military.
For Fred Thomas and Lizzie Hendrix, please let us know if there is anything we can do to help with the house across the street. I know your mom recently lost her dad and asked for our help with
His dogs and horses. If this message gets to you please contact us if you need us. So sorry for your loss and the terrible time you both must be going through. John saw Jason drive by on Thursday in the pilot. He stopped in front of the g-Bourne house.

There are violent video games linked to his Facebook. In the way he killed his family it corresponds to actions you see on video games. The fact that he went to church after he did it and showed no signs of stress or remorse shows serial killer personality traits.
Prescription medication alters behavior, sometimes in less than the positive manner it was intended. I hope they get the bottom of this story. Very sad, my prayers to the family and friends.
A check should be done to see what, if any prescription medication he may have been on, such as anti-depressants, mood stabilizers, etc. Most mass shootings or unexplained behavior such as this, sadly, the person has been found to be on something.
I honestly have seen a lot of this, our televisions have shows that run night and day about killer kids and why kids kill, each time I watch one I can’t help but see one particular piece of evidence linking all these murders, video games! Guys, before you start bashing, I’m not talking about pac man, or simple non violent games, I’m talking about pure hatred toward humans. It desensitizes our young children. Humans to them are only objects in their way! Please please don’t give your small child a game he wants simply because he wants it, look at the age. It’s for a reason! Don’t know this kid, don’t know if he played them but my guess is he did! Let me know if you know what he played, thinking seriously about doing some research about this.

Life is often full of things that go unexplained. Just because people may or may not of done a really bad deed does not keep others from loving them or wishing the best for them. History is full of evil that has come and gone and afflicted the hearts and minds of people. Look at the life of Jesus Christ and his murder. Jesus Christ prayed to his Father and said: Father forgive them. They know not what they do. I say to all of you that Jason and his family are in the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ this very moment and hugging each other and are comforted that they are still together and the love they had they still have for each other. Let your hearts all be comforted by the love of the Holy Spirit and know they are all of them together and they do not condemn but forgive and are forgiven.
This was a sad story for all. I didn’t know any of the family, but I am aware of the Baltimore incidents that occurred first hand. It was odd how someone in a vehicle would not pull over for a traffic violation, run from State Police for maybe 30 miles at high speeds, then cross over I 95 to on coming traffic. State police broke off the chase at the time, but put out a BOLO(Be On Look Out) to all counties in the area. Approx 20 mins later, Balt Co PD spotted the vehicle approx 15 miles north of I 95, then Co PD called State PD & they both pursued the veh about 35 miles & very high rate of speed(80-110 mph). Finally he struck a vehicle that stopped him, many Officers started to approx the vehicle, that’s when he shot at cops, hitting 1. Thankfully our State Police Helicopter(which is also our Medevac) landed on the expressway with in maybe 2 mins. Everyone thought he was on drugs, because he would not pull over for a traffic stop, but now knowing that he killed 3 family members in KY, know it is clear why he wouldn’t stop. No PD Officers knew that he had allegedly killed his family members, but I guess he didn’t now that, this might be why he ran so hard. I FEEL TERRIBLY BAD & SORRY FOR ALL FRIENDS & FAMILY.
Why is it that when certain people commit such heinous acts, it always goes to how nice they were, they must have mental health problems, drugs made them do it, etc? Essentially, trying to justify something that is not justifiable. However, when other people commit a heinous crime, they are a thug, evil, and deserved to be killed by police. This young man shot and killed his parents and sister. Period!
I’ve also heard that some students are trying to make it out like he is the victim and planning ways to memorialize him at school. This is crazy if true. These kids need to understand that the parents and daughter were the victims not the teenage son.
Baltimore news report said he had a handgun and other weapons in the car. The kid wasn’t on drugs he just wasn’t mentally stable. From the current evidence this looks likes a premeditated crime with the intent to continue his homicide streak. All the comments about him being a nice and great kid just don’t fit. Remember people said they thought the kids that committed mass murder at columbine and other schools were great kids before those incidents. It takes a deranged person to kill a defenseless child.
What is the connection to Baltimore? Why was he there?
Jason wasint drug head he wasn’t stupid
Jason was in drug head he want stupid
Anonymous – I’d say the odds of that are pretty much zero. This kid got into a shootout with the police in another state. That’s nonsensical behavior for someone who just happened to walk in on a crime scene and is “running for his life,” mentally disturbed or otherwise.
He was one of my best friends so instead of being a bunch of downers and trying to justify your arguments you all can just shut up
I knew Jason personally. I worked with the ROTC kids and I found myself gravitated towards Jason. His personality does not fit the crime. This kid deserves some time for the police to sort things out! Something happened here and I don’t think Jason could do this. Even when he himself is going through a rough time, he always comforted others. He had a quick smile and a joke to follow. I am giving this kid the benefit of the doubt. I have cried day and night over him and his family. I love this kid that much.
What are the chances that someone else did this, Jason saw it happen, and was running for his own life? I just wonder if the ballistics for the gun he had match the rounds found in the home. It may be a shot in the dark, but doesn’t it make you wonder, really? Considering he really wasn’t a child with a troubled past and showed no indication of being capable. I don’t know. Such a terrible situation. I send prayers for the family and friends of everyone involved.
If the young man did do it I hope someone looks into what if any prescription drugs he might have been prescribed. Apparently quite a few of these unexplainable homicides are committed my young men on antidepressant or behavior type medication.
There are 4 children in all. The 2nd to oldest is Fred Thomas from Lexington. he attends the University of Kentucky. Please keep him and all family in prayer. Thank you.
Sending prayers for strength and comfort to the loved ones. Please take care of the young girl who has lost everyone. She needs all of the kindness and love that you can give her. Please remember her and her needs above your need to know what happened and why.
I didn’t know Jason personally;however, my grandson did. The boys just had their military ball and had so much fun! My grandson still has pics on his phone! He was so upset and worried that he was one that was killed in his home, along with his family! When we read later that he was the one who did all of this, he was devastated! There is NO reason for anyone to do this, none!!! My heart breaks for his only surviving sister and all of the loved ones left behind!! We have prayed for all of them, including the parents , his little sister and Jason! Something had to be terribly wrong with him to create this grief and heartbreak!
Please remove my previous post. I regret posting it and would like it to be deleted.
I knew Jason personally and I’d just like to put my word in. Jason was a nice, respectable, kind person. He could always make you smile and always had a smile. Yes, as Hampton stated he was going though a hard time but, does going through a hard time justify killing a young girl and two adults? Does going though a hard time make you any less of a murderer? The only good reason to take someones life was if they were planning on killing you and that was the only option. Now ladies and gentlemen, ask your self, do you think an eleven year old who weighed about eighty pounds posed that threat? Did the cop who tried to pull him over for speeding and driving recklessly deserve to be shot at? No. Jason Hendrix may have been a nice person but he isn’t anymore. He is a murderer. I don’t want to say this because I loved him like a brother but he is dispicable. He took a child’s life. He may have gone though or was currently going through a hard time but that justifies nothing. He doesn’t deserve to be defended anymore. He doesn’t. Now, before you start yelling at me think to yourself, “if I killed a little girl, mother, and my father, would I want people to defend the horrible thing I’ve done? Would I want people to spam pictures to ” Not forget Jason” knowing I’ve killed a kid”? Think. He may have been my friend but knowing that, I wish I never knew him.
I would personally like to thank The News Journal for keeping us updated. Also people are trying to make this individual out to be a hero or a victim. He was not. When you kill a young girl with a whole life ahead of her you are nothing. You don’t even deserve a grave stone. This is all if he is the murderer which it is looking that way. Again, thank you News Journal and please keep concerned citizens like me posted.
Why would anyone do something like this? You never truly know what people are capable of I guess.
Prayers. This is so horrible. All we can do is pray.
I just cannot believe he did this. He was so nice.
