BREAKING NEWS: Corbin High School put on ‘soft lockdown’
Corbin High School was placed on “soft lockdown” Friday morning after a man was reportedly seen near the campus with a shotgun.
According to Corbin Independent Schools Superintendent Dave Cox, a student looked out of a school building window and noticed a man walking around on private property across the street from the school with a shotgun.
“A resident was walking through the yard with a shotgun. They weren’t really doing anything wrong, and they were on their own property … but we wanted to err on the side of caution given today’s climate,” Cox said.
Cox added that one of the district’s school resource officers was talking with the resident to make sure everything was OK.
“He didn’t do anything wrong really, but he lives right across the street from the school, so we wanted just check things out since it was within a short distance from the school,” Cox added.
Classes continued inside the building uninterrupted. Cox said the only restriction was that no students could leave the building until the lockdown is lifted.
