Border fire destroys building, damages two others
One building was destroyed and two others were damaged as the result of a Friday fire just north of the Kentucky-Tennessee border on U.S. 25 just before noon Friday.
Williamsburg fire units were called to the scene to assist, as well as four other volunteer departments from across southern Whitley County.
Officials at the scene say they are unsure of what caused the blaze, but they said the building in which I originated was possibly used for storage purposes only.
One of the buildings involved was an occupied apartment and dispatchers initially believed someone might have been trapped inside, but officials confirmed later that the apartment was empty at the time.
Assisting at the scene along WFD, were South Whitley, Pleasant View and Emlyn Fire Departments. The Whitley County
Sheriff’s Department, Whitley County Emergency Management Director Danny Moses and Constable Jimmy Thornton all responded to the fire.
