Body of Corbin Marine, killed in Afghanistan, set to arrive home Friday morning
The body of a Corbin High School graduate and Marine, killed last week by an improvised bomb while serving in Afghanistan, will return home Friday morning.
Lance. Cpl. Timothy Matthew Jackson, 22, a 2007 graduate of Corbin High School, will arrive at the London-Corbin Airport Friday at about 9:30 a.m., family members said today. Jackson was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, which is based at Camp Lejeune, N.C. The unit was deployed to Afghanistan, working in the Helmand province, located in the southern part of the country. His four-year enlistment in the Marines was scheduled to be complete in July.
Jackson joined the U.S. Marine Corp. right out of high school. Those who knew him say he always wanted to serve his country by joining the Marines.
Family members say Jackson’ remains will be driven up and down Kentucky Ave. and Main Street in downtown Corbin. Anyone that wishes to pay their respects is welcome to watch and wave American flags.
"He respected everybody," said Jody Tonkin, Jackson’s mother. "He loved everybody."
Jackson’s funeral, originally slated to be at Hart Funeral Home, has been moved to The Arena in south Corbin. The funeral is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. next Tuesday. Visitation is set for 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday.
Jackson will be laid to rest at Wells Cemetery in Keavy following the funeral.

Thank-you for paying the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. We take it for granted sometimes and forget those who give their lives defending it. I encourage everyone, the next time you see a soldier or a veteran, go to them and thank them. We owe our men and women who serve that and so much more. You and your family are in my heart and prayers. God Bless.
