Bobby Wilson
Bobby Wilson, 81, of Williamsburg, the beloved husband of Justeen (Sharp) Wilson and father of Jackie (Wilson) Tavares departed this life on September 2, 2018 at his home following loving care by his family and Blue Grass Hospice Care.
He was born February 21, 1937 in Middlesboro, to the late Raymond Wilson and Angeline (Collier) Wilson Strickland and was also preceded in death by his step-father Hershel Strickland and brothers Leroy, Billy and Ronny Wilson.
Bobby more than made up for a formal education by being self-taught in many life skills: mechanic, electrician, plumber, and carpenter; the proverbial Mr. Fix-It. He was a United States Air Force veteran and co-owner of Justeen’s Restaurant. If you were lucky, you dined at Justeen’s on a Saturday where Bobby made the best fried chicken and gravy you ever tasted.
Bobby was a supporter of the Whitley County Historical and Genealogical Society and always made sure the workers at Old Fashioned Days had breakfast and peanut butter fudge to sell to raise funds for the Society. If you never had the pleasure of his peanut butter fudge, you surely missed out.
He loved gardening, bird watching, old cars, fishing, and floating the river. He was an avid reader and a fantastic storyteller.
“A man’s intelligence is measured not by formal education, but by his willingness and ability to learn.” Bobby Wilson.
In addition to his wife and daughter, he is survived by brothers Herbert and Eddy Wilson and half-brothers Tony and Jeffrey Wilson and sister, Jean (Wilson) Barr.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday September 5, at the Ellison Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday September 6, at Ellison Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Bill Mitchell officiating.
Interment will be in the Highland Park Cemetery Ellison Addition. Condolences may be made to the family at www.ellisonfh.com.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Blue Grass Hospice Care or Whitley County Historical and Genealogical Society, P.O. Box 536, Williamsburg, KY 40769.
Ellison Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
