Bobbie Jean McKiddy
Bobbie Jean McKiddy, age 79, of Corbin, KY, passed away Thursday, July 21, 2022 at her home.
She was born June 4, 1943 in Knox County, KY to the late Robert and Mary Lucy Partin Wilson of Siler, KY.
Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence McKiddy; four brothers, Alton Wilson, Harold Wilson, Johnny Wilson, Carlus Wilson; and three nephews, Dale Davis, Leon Wilson, and Billy Wilson.
Bobbie was the director and president of the Mulberry Friendship Center from 1977 until her date of death on July 21. During these years she was the founder of Friendship Mountain Crafts. This helped numerous local people sell their handmade items for a source of income through craft fairs and mail orders.
The craft products were featured in Better Homes and Gardens Magazine, Bloomingdales, and many more. She was a member of the Kentucky Guild of Artisans and Craftman. She was one of 32 Americans honored at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. in 1980 for her exceptional service and work to help end poverty in America.
She received several additional awards for being director of Vista Volunteers where she served for many years. Her devotion for serving others and her great sense of humor will be greatly missed.
She is survived by two brothers, Bill Wilson (Kathy) of Williamsburg, KY, and Ed Wilson of Siler, KY; four sisters, Helen Goodin (Freddie) of Williamsburg, KY, Wanda Peace of Williamsburg, KY, Naomi Davis of Williamsburg, KY, and Shirley Storms of Williamsburg, KY; a great niece who was very dear to Bobbie, Ashlee Hatfield; very special family friend, Chris Paul; several nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends to mourn her passing.
Graveside service will be at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, July 27, at the Goins Cemetery Wilson Addition with Rev. Josh Bowman officiating.
Interment will be in the Goins Cemetery Wilson Addition.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy Hatfield, Hagan Hatfield, Hunter Croley, Austin Ponder, Dalton Ponder, James Wilson, and Greg Lovitt. Chris Paul will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
