BLUEGRASS CHAMPIONS
The Corbin Lady Redhounds tennis team captured the Forcht Bank King of the Bluegrass Tournament in Louisville Saturday. Corbin defeated South Oldham, 5-0, North Oldham 5-0 and Jennings County (In) in the championship, 4-1.
Number one singles player, Morgan Freeman was named the MVP of the tournament after coming away with impressive wins over South Oldham’s Edie Alizadeh, 8-0, North Oldham’s Lauren Renard, 8-4 and Molly Knight of Jennings County, 6-3, 6-3.
“We went in focused, and stayed focused the whole tournament,” said Corbin Coach Donnie Head. “The only loss was at one doubles and it was a barn-burner.”
Sydney Ledington, Erin Hart and Jaclyn Jewell were all selected to the all-tournament team.
The three wins upped the Lady Redhounds record to 11-1 on the season. Corbin will be at Middlesboro Thursday and at Mercer County Monday. There will be a girls’ junior varsity tournament at the Corbin courts Saturday.
