Former Williamsburg Police Chief Wayne Bird and former Lt. Jim Pool were recognized Monday evening during the Williamsburg City Council’s monthly meeting. Bird and Pool retired from the city’s police force on Sept. 1 and July 31, respectively. The two were each presented with an award and a round of applause for their work, both of whom served 27 years as city police officers. Williamsburg Mayor Roddy Harrison said that both men “helped turn the police department around.” Council member Mary Ann Stanfill personally thanked the two men for their service and commended Bird for the work he put into making the police department what it is today. “In your department, you have turned them into better individuals, better policemen—of course—but better people,” said Stanfill.
