Bevin gets beat by Goforth in Whitley County, but still wins Primary

Voter turnout in Whitley County exceeded expectations Tuesday as 18.13 percent of registered votes went to the polls to cast their ballots in a hotly contested primary election for governor.

About 18 percent of registered voters went to the polls on Election Day in Whitley County.

“We have had a very good day, especially since the turnout was greater than expected,” said Whitley County Clerk Kay Schwartz. “I was surprised and thrilled that it was 18 percent and not the 15 percent that I had predicted.”

Although Republican Incumbent Gov. Matt Bevin won his party’s nomination, he wasn’t the choice of Whitley County Republicans, who by a 1,000-vote margin chose challenger State Representative Robert Goforth instead.
