Bessie M. Davis Godsey

Bessie M. Davis Godsey, 96, of Corbin, passed away on Thursday,April 26, 2018, at her home.

Born in Whitley County, she was the daughter of the late John Davis and Maggie Napier Davis, and was of the Baptist faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Godsey in 2011; son Johnny Ray Sullivan; daughter Carol Claxton Henry; sisters Mary King, Minnie Mitchell, Mae Barton and Edith Jones; and brothers Frank, Joe and Harrison Davis.

She is survived by her great-grandson and caregiver Joseph Messer and wife Ashley with whom she resided and their children Ayden and Sydney Messer; sister Martha Sutton; two sons Junior and Jerry Claxton; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The funeral service was held Monday, April 30, at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home with Rev. James Hodge officiating.

Burial was in the Pine Hill Cemetery with her nephews serving as pallbearers.
