Baseball/softball results – 4/21/15
After going 1-for-3 late last week in the Billy Joe Idol Memorial Tournament at Middlesboro, the Whitley County Lady Colonels softball team was looking to pick up their first 50th District victory of the season Tuesday evening when they hosted the Corbin Lady Hounds. It was not to be, however, as the Hounds were able to snap a nine-game losing streak with a 9-2 victory over the host Colonels.
With the win, Corbin improves to 5-13 on the year and remains undefeated against district opponents at 3-0. Whitley County falls to 8-6 overall, and are now 0-4 in district play.
Next up for the Lady Hounds is another district matchup on Wednesday, April 22 at home against South Laurel. The Lady Colonels are scheduled to face Lynn Camp on the road this Thursday, April 23. Both games are set to get underway at 6:00 p.m.
In other 50th District softball action from Tuesday evening, the Williamsburg Lady Yellow Jackets suffered a 14-3 loss on the road at South Laurel. With the loss, the Lady Jackets now sit at 5-4 on the season and are 0-3 in the district.
Finally, the Lynn Camp Lady Wildcats softball team went on the road Tuesday to Middlesboro, where they were defeated 15-0. The Lady Cats are now 6-8 on the season.
In Tuesday night baseball action, the Corbin Redhounds were able to bounce back from a district loss to Whitley County over the weekend, defeating the Williamsburg Yellow Jackets on the road 13-1. The win puts the Redhounds at 8-7 on the year and gives them a 2-1 record in the 50th District.
With the loss, their seventh in a row, the Jackets fall to 2-7 overall, 0-3 in district play. They will attempt to break their losing streak Wednesday evening when they travel to Corbin to face the Redhounds once more. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
The Whitley County baseball team was enjoying some positive momentum going into their Tuesday night meeting with South Laurel, but the Cardinals were able to halt that momentum, picking up the 8-1 road win.
Whitley is now 6-6 on the season, 1-2 in the district, and they will look to get even with South Wednesday evening in London. Start time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
Also Tuesday, the Lynn Camp Wildcats hosted the Barbourville Tigers. The Cats fell 12-7, giving them an overall record of 1-11 so far this season.
