Baptist Health opens new cancer clinic

The Baptist Health Corbin cancer clinic is now located in the Paul Parker Pavilion at the hospital. The expanded space will better serve patients, officials say. A public open house will be held for the facility on Nov. 10.

Cancer patients coming to Baptist Health Corbin for treatment Monday entered a whole new world.

After more than five months of construction, the hospital opened its new cancer center to patients Monday morning.

“We had clinics Friday until about noon and moved everything over the weekend,” said Debbie Hardin a spokesperson for the hospital.

“The new location is 7,900 square feet, which is almost double the old space,” Hardin said.

Hardin said hospital officials used the additional space to house four private infusion rooms for patients that require IV’s to lie down, a departmental lab, consultation, conference and office space, a larger open infusion area for patients that want company while receiving treatment, a dedicated waiting area and nine physician exam rooms.

“The total cost of the project was a little under $2 million,” Hardin said.

Patients will now enter on what would be the backside of the building on the traffic circle.

Free valet parking is available by pulling into the traffic circle.

Hardin said the old space will be remodeled to accommodate the outpatient infusion service and to expand the pharmacy service.

“The purpose of this project was to expand the available service space for the treatment and care of Baptist Health Corbin cancer patients, allowing patients in our area to receive timely treatments for cancer related conditions,” Hardin said.

“We try to accommodate everything they might want or need,” Hardin said.

The hospital will host an open house of the facility from 2-4 p.m. on November 10.
