Arson suspected in Sunday morning blaze

A Kentucky State Police arson investigator has been asked to examine a fire that destroyed a home on Barnhill Road Sunday morning.

Woodbine Fire Department Battalion Chief Rickie Fore said firefighters were called to the scene off of Brays Chapel Road about 11:30 a.m.

“It was a single story house that was about three-quarters of the way fully involved and partially collapsed,” Fore said of the scene when firefighters arrived.

Oak Grove Fire Department was paged per the departments’ mutual aid agreement.

Fore said firefighters worked to knock down the blaze and then made entry into the remains.

No one was home at the time.

Goldbug Fire Department was also paged out to provide tankers and additional manpower.

Fore said firefighters were unable to determine where or how the blaze started.

“It was probably arson,” Fore said. “We notified the arson investigator to look at it at the request of the homeowner.”

Firefighters were on the scene until 3:20 p.m. performing salvage and overhaul.

A second page in the Woodbine district about 2:30 p.m. was handed off to the Corbin Fire Department.

Battalion Chief Jack Partin said firefighters were called to Walters Road where a multi-room structure was burning.

“It was fully involved when we got there and the roof had fallen in,” Partin said.

Firefighters were on the scene for several hours until Woodbine firefighters cleared the Barnhill Road scene and could respond.

Partin said the structure was a total loss.
