Annual Cumberland Falls Invitational Tournament at Corbin HS this week
On Wednesday, the Annual Cumberland Falls Invitational Tournament kicks off at Corbin High School. As usual, a talented field of teams promises to deliver some first-rate roundball action.
On opening day, the 16th Region’s Boyd County Lions will kick things off against the 6th Region’s Western Warriors at 6:30 p.m. The 8-2 Lions will come into this matchup as the heavy favorites on paper considering the Warriors currently stand at 1-7, but Western has probably played a tougher schedule up to this point, so anything could happen.
In the late game Wednesday, it’ll be a battle of the hounds when the host Redhounds take on the Paris Greyhounds out of the 10th Region.
Corbin is coming off of a strong showing in last week’s Legacy Nissan Dribble Drive Challenge at South Laurel High School, picking up wins over Harlan and Rockcastle County to improve to 4-1 on the season. Paris, meanwhile, has struggled in the early stages of their schedule, coming into the CFIT with an overall record of 3-6. They did win in their last two outings, though, defeating Whitefield Academy and Cisne, IL.
On Thursday, Boyd County will be back in action against Daniel, SC at 6:30 p.m., followed by Paris taking on Webb School out of Tennessee.
Webb will face Corbin at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, with Daniel and Western meeting in the late game.
The tournament finals will be held Saturday, with three contests beginning at 5:00 p.m. The three-point contest will be held in between Thursday evening’s games, while the dunk contest will be held in between Friday’s games.
This year’s CFIT will also feature a middle school showcase, with Corbin facing Jackson County in seventh and sixth grade action on Dec. 28 beginning at 4 o’clock.
The seventh and sixth grade Hounds will face McCreary County on Dec. 29, once again beginning at 4:00 p.m.
