Annual Beat the Heat color run a ‘tremendous’ success in 2014

The Annual Beat the Heat 1-mile color run/walk was held last Friday evening in downtown Williamsburg.

Dr. Matthew Christopher of Christopher Chiropractic, who directs the race along with his wife Dr. Elizabeth Christopher and Kathy Lay of the Whitley County Health Department, said that the event was “tremendous,” and they saw the “best turn out ever.”

Christopher said that 282 runners registered in total, raising approximately $2,000 to help pay for air conditioning units for people in need.

Half of the proceeds went to the Mountain Outreach program, and the other half went to the Bell-Whitley Community Action Agency, who in turn purchased the air conditioners and made sure that they went to people who are having a tough time “beating the heat” this summer.

256 runners and walkers successfully finished the course after being covered in colored starch along the way.
