Angel Cats, Alley Cats take home championships from Lynn Camp summer youth softball league
The championship for the player fast pitch division of Lynn Camp’s summer softball league closed out the season on Friday, July 29.
The Mystery Cats and the Alley Cats faced off for the title with the Alley Cats coming away victorious, 17-13.
The Alley Cats took a big lead, 12-1, by the bottom of the second inning, but then the Mystery Cats began to fight back.
The game began with Alley Cat Madison Roberts getting a base hit on the first pitch, which lead to the first run. Roberts also pitched a complete game for the Alley Cats. Hailee Mills scored the first run for the Mystery Cats, also pitching six and half innings, scoring a run and recording four RBIs.
The bottom of the second finally brought the energy when the Mystery Cats saw a six-run explosion. Hailee Mills and Julia Shephard had back-to-back two-run hits to begin the comeback.
The Mystery Cats held the Alley Cats to only five more runs packing on 12 themselves. Gabby Carollo and Amber Hubbs led the Alley Cat offense with three runs each.
Going into the seventh inning, 17-13, each team held the other down to no more runs, resulting in the Alley Cats becoming champions, and Mystery Cats taking runner-up.
Coach pitch for the Lynn Camp Summer League came to an end on Saturday, July 30 with the Angel Cats winning the season championship.
The Angel Cats were ranked as the number one seed with an undefeated 10-0 record going into game one against the Mystery Cats.
By the second inning, the Mystery Cats only trailed 4-2, but the Angel Cats scored three more runs in the top of the inning.
The Mystery Cats held them down to only two more runs, however, ending the game 9-2.
Chloe Manning and Alyssa Jones were the top defensive players for the Mystery Cats, making essential catches and plays throughout the game.
Game two was between seed two, the Bat Cats, and seed three, the Ponytail Express. Ponytail Express took the lead with two runs in the top of the first, but the Bat Cats answered with four runs of their own. Ava McGowen, Lynsie Durham, and Jasmine Wright each scored two runs in the game, contributing to the Bat Cats’ 10-2 victory.
The Angel Cats and Bat Cats faced off in the championship game in a contest between the two winningest teams of the season. The Angel Cats did not let up, holding the Bat Cats to no runs.
Jasmine Wright hit a double in the second inning as the top offensive player for the Angel Cats. Izzy Walker and Cambree Prewitt each scored a run, and each hit three singles.
Rachel Knuckles and Emma Helton each hit a double and a single, while scoring one run apiece. Charity Steele hit a three-run RBI in the first inning, giving the Angel Cats the lead. That was followed by Steele hitting two singles.
The Angel Cats won 8-0, earning the title of coach pitch champions.
