‘All things fall fun’ theme for Oct. 21 Third Thursday event in W’burg
Think you have the best pumpkin decorating skills in Williamsburg? Next week you will have the chance to prove it. As part of the monthly Third Thursday event, there will be a pumpkin decorating contest at the River Fog Park in downtown Williamsburg.
Williamsburg Mayor Roddy Harrison said Third Thursday is a monthly event in downtown Williamsburg from 5-8 p.m. each third Thursday of the month, which is designed to get more people downtown. Many local businesses offer specials during that time and assorted events are hosted This month’s theme is “All things fall fun.”
On Oct. 21, vendors will set up at the River Fog Park, which is located at the intersection of Main and Third streets, in addition to the offerings of downtown businesses.
Those interested in the pumpkin decorating contest should bring their pumpkins down at 5 p.m. to River Fog Park, and judging will start at 5:30 p.m. The pumpkins will then stay up at River Fog Park through Halloween to help decorate downtown.
Winners will be announced on Oct. 30 trick or treat night.
In addition, the Williamsburg Main Street program will be selling “Meet Me on Main” T-shirts, and there will be a “Rocking Around Williamsburg” rocking chair raffle for $10 per chance to win a $230 Cracker Barrell rocking chair during next week’s Third Thursday event.
Local businesses will also be adding to the pot, and you can purchase tickets at participating local businesses.
In addition, there will be a story book walk held downtown.
Several other events are planned this month in Williamsburg.
The final Williamsburg Cruise-In of the season is slated to take place on Saturday, Oct. 23 around the old courthouse. The cruise-in will take place from 12-7 p.m. Harrison added that while this will be the final cruise-in of the season, the monthly cruise-ins will start back next spring probably in April.
This year trick or treating has been moved from Halloween night, which falls on a Sunday, to Saturday, Oct. 30 in Williamsburg from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.
Prior to trick or treating, there will be singing by the Williamsburg and Whitley County school choirs at River Fog Park starting at 3 p.m.
After trick or treating, there will be a drive-in movie in the parking lot at the Kentucky Splash waterpark starting at 8:30 p.m.
Harrison said that people are welcome to bring lawn chairs and sit out while watching the movie and listening to it on speakers at the waterpark, or they can sit in their vehicles and listen to the audio on their FM radios.
Harrison said that the movie will be a family friendly Halloween themed movie, but he still has one more movie to watch from a list of movies that he is going to choose from before he decides.
There is no cost to attend the singing in the park or the drive-in movie at the waterpark.
“If this (the drive-in movie) goes over well, we will do two or three a year,” he added.
