All-Stars Update
UPDATE: As of Thursday morning, July 2, the Corbin A 9-10 year-old baseball team is still waiting to play their next game against Clay County after rainy weather forced the game to be postponed. Also postponed due to rainy conditions were the Junior and Senior League games at Lynn Camp High School. Results of all these contests will be available in the next edition of The News Journal, available Wednesday, July 8.
The Corbin 11-12 year-old baseball team was able to complete their game with Clay County Wednesday evening, losing by a score of 10-0. They will now face South London with a chance to reach the Area 2 championship on the line.
Also, the 11-12 year-old Corbin softball team was eliminated from their district tournament Wednesday, falling to Clay County in Harlan by a score of 5-4.
ORIGINAL: On Tuesday, June 30 the 9-10 year-old Corbin A baseball team met up with North Laurel Blue at the South London Little League fields. Corbin lost 10-0, dropping them into the loser’s bracket of the Area 2 tournament. They will now have to face Clay County Wednesday evening, July 1 at 8:00 p.m.
Also Tuesday, the 9-10 year-old Corbin softball team suffered their second loss in this year’s district tournament, ending their summer season just one game short of an appearance in the tourney finals. They fell to North Laurel 18-0 in their debut, but defeated Tri-City and McCreary County en route to their Tuesday night meeting with South London, who ended up winning by a score of 20-0.
The 11-12 year-old Corbin baseball team was scheduled to complete their game with Clay County Tuesday evening, but more bad weather forced it to be moved back to Wednesday. They will play after the conclusion of the North Laurel vs South London game, which is set to get underway at 6:00 p.m. at Corbin’s Rotary Park.
The Corbin Junior League All-Stars were also scheduled to begin play in their district tournament Tuesday against Middlesboro, but that game had to be cancelled due to inclement weather as well. The tournament is being held at Lynn Camp High School, and the game has been rescheduled for Wednesday, with the first pitch set for 6:00 p.m.
The Corbin Senior League boys are also in action at Lynn Camp High School this week, and should they win their next game against Hazard, they will qualify for state competition.
Finally, the Corbin 11-12 year-old softball team will hope to come one step closer to a district championship berth when they play their next game at Harlan County High School, scheduled to take place on Wednesday evening.
