Accused burglar caught in the act

A Williamsburg man is behind bars after he was caught allegedly trying to break into a house Sunday afternoon.

Whitley County Sheriff’s Deputy Mike Lawson arrested Nick Lambdin, 26, of Shelbie Hurst Road, about 3:03 p.m. charging him with first-degree burglary, first-degree criminal mischief and tampering with physical evidence.

Lawson made the arrest after responding to the intersection of Cane Creek Road and US25W, which is located about two miles south of Williamsburg, to investigating a burglary in progress report.

When Lawson arrived, he found Lambdin detained by George Davis and Terry Claxton Jr.

Claxton told police that he saw Lambdin breaking into the front window of the house on the corner. Claxton chased him from the house and Lambdin gave up, Lawson wrote in the arrest citation.

After being read his constitutional rights, Lambdin allegedly admitted to entering the house with a crowbar, the citation stated.

A witness saw Lambdin throw the crowbar, according to the citation.

Lambdin pleaded not guilty during his arraignment Monday afternoon in Whitley District Court.

Judge Fred White appointed the public advocate’s office to represent Lambdin and scheduled a Dec. 10 preliminary hearing in his case.

White set a $50,000 cash bond, but agreed to allow Lambdin to attend long-term in-house rehabilitation once a bed becomes available, according to the court docket.
