Abandoned vehicle report leads to discovery of missing person

Thanks in part to the efforts of a Whitley County Sheriff’s deputy, an injured missing person was recently found safe.

On Aug. 17, Deputy Caleb Hester responded to a report of an abandoned vehicle off Highway 90 that had been parked along an old dirt road for two days.

When Hester arrived at the scene, he noticed many personal items within the vehicle and went to the address listed for the vehicle’s owner, according to a sheriff’s department release.

Hester spoke to the vehicle owner’s mother who told him that she hadn’t made contact with her son for two days.

Hester then contacted Whitley County Emergency Management Director Danny Moses and Woodbine Search and Rescue.

“Together they all began to search for the male subject. After a couple hours of searching, the male subject was found safely but sustained multiple injuries. The subject was transported to Baptist Health Corbin by Whitley County EMS,” the release stated.

“Sheriff Shelley would like to commend Deputy Caleb Hester for an exceptional job and his hard work. We appreciate the continuous team work and assistance from Emergency Management Director Danny Moses and Woodbine Fire Department. Together we always accomplish more.
