A weekend of celebrations: Williamsburg’s Fourth of July

Long Weekend Fun: Williamsburg’s Independence Day festivities kicked off Friday night at Bill Woods Park with the city’s second Block Party of the summer, featuring the band Hi 5 (TOP). The band kept the crowd entertained with a variety of hits from multiple genres, including songs like Al Green’s classic “Take Me to the River” and Lady Gaga’s “Million Reasons.” The culmination of the city’s holiday festivities took place Monday evening at the Kentucky Splash Waterpark, where a picnic was held at 7 p.m., following by a hot dog eating contest (ABOVE). The annual rubber duck race was held at 8 p.m. with over 500 rubber ducks being dumped into the waterpark’s lazy river by Mayor Roddy Harrison and park staff (RIGHT). The first 45 ducks to make a complete lap were gathered up and dumped back into the lazy river for a final lap, with the winner taking home $500. All proceeds from the event were donated to Williamsburg Police Department’s Shop with a Cop program. The evening wrapped up with a firework show just outside the waterparks grounds.
