Gray woman charged with shooting neighbor
A Gray woman is accused of shooting her neighbor in the leg Thursday night.
According to Kentucky State Police, 43-year-old Gwendolyn Smith pulled out a handgun about 8:15 p.m. as her verbal argument with 43-year-old Jason Marsee escalated.
Marsee and Smith are neighbors on Dunham Lane.
Trooper Shane Jacobs, public affairs officer at Post 10 in Harlan, said Marsee was taken by ambulance to a helicopter landing zone and was airlifted to the University of Tennessee Medical Center.
Officials at UT said Friday that Marsee had been discharged.
Smith was charged with one count of first-degree assault and lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.
Jacobs said it is unknown what the neighbors were arguing about but it is not the first time time they had gotten into an arguement
Jacobs added that Marsee did not have a wespon on his person.
Officials at the jail said Smith has been released on a $25,000 surety bond, meaning she did not have to post any money or property but signed paperwork agreeing to appear in court as required.
Officials at the Knox County Court Clerk’s Office said arraignments are not scheduled to be held again until Thursday, at which time Smith will likely appear in court. Judge John Chappell is scheduled to preside that day.
Kentucky State Police Detective Bryan Johnson is continuing the investigation.
