Tip leads Laurel deputies to major meth operation in Keavy
Laurel County Sheriff’s deputies arrested two people in connection with the 62 meth labs and 12 HCL generators they found at a Keavy residence Wednesday night.
According to Sheriff John Root Scotty Lewis, 37, of Corbin and David Heard, 41, of Richmond are each charged with 74 counts of manufacturing methamphetamine and on first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance.
Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, the department’s public affairs officer, said deputies were investigating an anonymous tip concerning a possible meth making operation at the residence on Paris Karr Road when they discovered the labs, generators and more than 200 pounds of manufacturing byproducts.
Paris Karr Road was closed until just before midnight as officials worked to clear the scene.
Herd and Lewis are each being held in the Laurel County Detention Center on a $10,000 cash bond.
They are scheduled to be arraigned Friday in Laurel District Court
Detectives Jason Back and James Sizemore are continuing the investigation.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by Keavy and West Knox firefighters.
