Child dies Thursday morning after being shot in Corbin
UPDATE: Late Thursday evening, the Whitley County Sheriff’s office shared the following information regarding a shooting in Corbin that resulted in the death of a two-year-old child:
“On Thursday, September 7, 2023, at 9:51 AM the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to 75 Martin Road in Corbin in reference to a child that had been accidentally shot by another child. The Corbin Police Department and the Corbin Fire Department both responded to the scene and arrived prior to sheriff department personnel. The child, later identified as 2-year-old Milo Brooks, was transported by the Corbin Fire Department to Baptist Health – Corbin where he was pronounced deceased. Preliminary investigation revealed Brooks had been accidentally shot one time in the head by another child in the home after the child was able to gain access to a firearm. Sheriff Bill Elliotte is leading the ongoing investigation and was assisted by the Corbin Police Department, the Corbin Fire Department, Whitley County EMS, Whitley County Coroner Andy Croley, DCBS personnel, and other Whitley County Sheriff deputies.”
Original: A two-year-old child died Thursday morning following a shooting at a residence in the Gordon Hill area of Corbin.
According to Whitley County Sheriff Bill Elliotte, the shooting occurred at a home on Martins Drive, just inside the Whitley County line near the 312 bridge. The child was shot in the head by a three-year-old child, who Elliotte said had gained access to a firearm.
Corbin Police Department and Corbin Fire Department first responded to the scene. Firefighters transported the two-year-old to Baptist Health Corbin, where they were pronounced deceased.
Elliotte said that other details regarding the shooting are limited and an investigation is ongoing. No names have been released at this time.
