Portion of Roy Kidd Ave. to be closed beginning Sept. 5
The portion of Roy Kidd Avenue connecting Kentucky Avenue to Depot Street will be closed beginning early next month.
According to a release from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC), the road closure will begin Tuesday, Sept. 5, and is scheduled to continue through Friday, Sept. 22. The closure is necessary to accommodate a new traffic pattern that will allow for only one-way traffic coming off of Main Street.
The Corbin City Commission narrowly approved the change by a 3-2 vote during their February meeting after the KYTC identified the intersection of Main Street and Roy Kidd Avenue as a possible area of concern. Once the work is complete, the portion of Roy Kidd Avenue connecting Main Street to Kentucky Avenue will become a left turn only off of Main Street and the portion connecting Main Street to Depot Street will become a right turn only.
The change will prevent motorists from turning left off Kentucky Avenue toward Main Street. Additionally, anyone coming from the Roy Kidd underpass will be required to turn left or right where it meets Depot Street.
As part of the changes, one lane of each portion will be altered and utilized for parking. There will be angular parking spots added between Main Street and Depot Street and parallel parking spots added between Main Street and Kentucky Avenue.
The date, time, and duration of work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur.
