Man tazed at Whitley Justice Center
The next time a Williamsburg man steps into the Whitley County Judicial Center, it will be as a criminal defendant who is accused of fighting with court security officers last week.
The case against Forty-one-year-old Bradley Tucker, who is facing charges second degree assault on a police officer, first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, second-degree disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and alcohol intoxication in a public place, is scheduled to appear in Whitley Circuit Court on Dec. 5 to learn whether a grand jury has returned an indictment on him.
According to the arrest citation, Tucker came into the judicial center about 1:15 p.m. last Wednesday. Security officers stated that Tucker was cursing at them and throwing his belongings on the table at the checkpoint.
“Above was warned on numerous occasions that his behavior would not be tolerated while inside this courthouse,” stated security officer Jennifer Shelley, noting Tucker then proceeded to the clerk’s office where he continued to disturb the deputy clerks and other patrons.
Shelley stated she attempted to get Tucker to leave, but he initially refused. Upon returning to the checkpoint, Shelley said Deputy Tom Hurst spoke with him, where upon Tucker became aggressive and took a swing at Hurst.
Shelley and Hurst tried to wrestle Tucker to the ground and Shelley deployed her Tazer.
Tucker was secured in handcuffs and placed in a holding cell.
“Above smelled of an alcoholic beverage and admitted to drinking excessively all day,” Shelley stated, adding that Tucker was unsteady on his feet and his speech was slurred.
Shelley noted that Hurst conducted a pat down search on Tucker.
Hurst reportedly asked Tucker if he had anything on his person that may stick or otherwise injure Hurst. Tucker denied having anything on multiple occasions.
However, when Hurst searched Tucker’s left front pocket, he ran his thumb into a sharpened nail, drawing blood.
Judge Fred White amended Tucker’s bond to $20,000 cash and ordered that if he is able to post bond that he be subject to home monitoring.
Tucker remains in the Whitley County Detention Center.
