Whitley County BOE recognizes students and staff
The Whitley County Board of Education awarded a “Above and Beyond” award to Mrs. Wilson, four students were accepted into the Craft Academy and the district’s top Accelerated Reading Program award winners were announced during the board of education’s recently monthly meeting.
The meeting kicked off with the recognition of Mrs. Mary Wilson with the “Above and Beyond” award.
Furthermore, the Superintendent, John Siler, took a moment to recognize four students who were selected for an exciting opportunity with Morehead State University (MSU). The students were Isaish Llewellyn, Andrew Meadors, Norma Proffitt, and Jonathan Wilson.
These students were chosen to participate in the Craft Academy program, where they will spend their junior and senior years at MSU. This program allows students to attend college classes while still engaging in high school events.
By earning college credits through this program, they gain a head start.
The Superintendent encouraged them to make the most of this exceptional opportunity.
The meeting also included an awards presentation for students who excelled in the Accelerated Reading Program (AR). Each grade level featured one student who surpassed over 300 students in their grade levels across the district. These students were reading higher than their current grade.
The District Top AR award winners for 2022-2023 were the following:
Kindergarten – Braxton Bryant from Oak Grove, 1st Grade – Lathan Prewitt from Whitley Primary, 2nd grade – Leah Wilson from Whitley Primary, 3rd grade – Carter Davis from Whitley Intermediate, 4th grade – Isabelle McGinley from Whitley Intermediate, 5th grade – Reed Frazier from Pleasant View, and 6th grade – Jayci Feltner from Oak Grove.
The Superintendent applauded their achievements. He encouraged parents to continue to nurture their children’s reading habits even during the summer break.
