Howard Ray Asher
Howard Ray Asher, was born October 25, 1950, in Scott Co. TN, to the late Howard and Lucille (Ellis) Asher of Jellico.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Linda Kay (Katie) Asher; and nephew, Michael Andrew Silcox; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Hard Rock graduated from Jellico High School in 1968 and then joined the US Air Force for 12+ years.
Once returning to his hometown, he worked as a truck driver, police officer, police commissioner and was an elected city councilman member for the city of Jellico.
He suffered debilitating strokes in his 40’s which ultimately took his life over 25 years later. He was a true fighter, loved Christmas, his family and never lost his spirit and witty sense of humor while being mostly home bound.
He never complained about his medical condition, he would say, “why worry, I am still here.”
Howard is survived by his daughter, Teresa (Jimmy) Taylor; and two grandsons, JT and Jackson Taylor all of VA; his sister, Paula (Mark) Hargis of Lenoir City, TN; nephews, Tyler (Yaritza) Douglas of Lenoir City, TN, Erik (Mariah) Hargis of AL; niece, Kristin (Chip) VanTassell of TX; great nephew Edison Hargis, baby Douglas due spring of 2023 and baby VanTassell due in spring of 2023.
He really tried to hold long enough to meet his new nephew and niece, but the Lord had other plans.
He has been cared for by a very special caregiver, Karen Green Douglas, friend, Wilma Harp and many other family members and friends to mourn his death.
His wishes were to be cremated. The family will have a military memorial service honoring him on Saturday, February 4, at 1 p.m.
The service will be open to all friends and family, Chaplain’s Kevin Walden and Bill Humphrey will officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Jellico Honor Guard.
Final resting place will be at Douglas Cemetery in the Wooldridge community at a later date.
