Police say Williamsburg man confessed to sex abuse

Cory Allen Mattox
A Williamsburg man allegedly confessed to police Tuesday morning that he sexually abused a child last year.
Williamsburg Police Detective Bobby Freeman arrested Cory Allen Mattox, 26, and charged him with first-degree sexual abuse Tuesday morning.
"We interviewed him this morning and he confessed so we arrested him," said Williamsburg Police Chief Wayne Bird, who assisted with the investigation.
Bird said that the victim, who is under the age of eight, confided in someone Monday, who in turn reported it to Williamsburg police.
"All we know from the investigation at this point is it appears to have happened once in November," Bird said.
Mattox allegedly fondled the girl while she slept.
Bird said Mattox didn’t give police any specific reason for why he did it.
"He stated that he had some problems. He also stated that he was a victim of sexual assault at a younger age that happened in another state but he didn’t give any details on it."
Based upon their investigation, police don’t believe that the girl was abused more than once.
At this point, Bird said he doesn’t anticipate any other charges unless the Department of Community-Based Services investigation turns up additional information.
Mattox was lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center.
