Local players advance to day two of state tennis tournament
Corbin’s Emma Kate Carloftis, along with partner Ellie Jane Carloftis, have advanced to the round of 16 in this year’s girls doubles state championship bracket.
Day one of the 2015 KHSAA tennis state championships is now complete, and Corbin High School has two players still alive in the girls doubles bracket.
Emma Kate and Ellie Jane Carloftis defeated Haley Mahan and Anna Grace Zehr from Whitley County Thursday morning 6-0, 6-2 to advance to the round of 32. They won a thriller there, defeating Assumption’s Sarah Fitzgerald and Hallie Pennington 3-6, 7-5, 10-1. Now they will face the number two ranked team of Alexis Austin and Caroline Cox from Collegiate. That match is scheduled to take place Friday morning at 10:30 a.m. at the UK Boone/Downing Tennis Complex in Lexington.
The Carloftis sisters’ teammates, Makayla Beecham and Cora Stevens, lost their first round matchup in the girls doubles bracket Thursday, falling to Lauren Auteri and Lexi Herman of Highlands 6-1, 6-2.
In girls singles action, Corbin’s Jaclyn Jewell won 6-0, 6-3 over South Warren’s Alexis Lindsey Thursday morning. However, she would fall in the next round to the number two ranked Meredith Laskey of Highlands by a final score of 6-0, 6-4.
Redhound Caroline Reedy was eliminated in round one of the girls singles bracket by number five ranked Allison Quammen. Quammen won by a score of 6-1, 6-0.
William and Harrison Reedy of Corbin won their first round match Thursday morning in the boys doubles bracket, defeating Rose Hill’s Nathan Reynolds and Ben Stringer 6-3, 6-3. They would then meet up with Lexington Christian’s Brody Bilderback and Adam Slone, who ended their season with a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
Finally, in the boys singles bracket, Redhound Nikhil Krishna fell in round one to Bowling Green’s Amrit Avula by a score of 6-1, 7-5.
Whitley County’s Chris Tan fared a little better, winning his first round matchup against East Carter’s Jonathan Seagraves 6-1, 6-4. He lost a heartbreaker in round two though, falling to Luke Least of Woodford County 3-6, 6-3, 10-2.
