Baptist Health Corbin designated an ACR Breast Imaging Center of Excellence
Baptist Health Corbin has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR).
By awarding facilities the status of a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, the ACR recognizes breast imaging centers that have earned accreditation in mammography, breast MRI, stereotactic breast biopsy, and breast ultrasound (including ultrasound-guided breast biopsy), Baptist Health Corbin announced in a release.
Peer-review evaluations, conducted in each breast imaging modality by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field, have determined that this facility has achieved high practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs.
“It is an honor for Baptist Health Corbin to be recognized by the American College of Radiology (ACR) for consistently providing the highest quality of care in mammography services,” said Anthony Powers, President. “We are proud of our dedicated breast radiologist, certified technologists and staff who work together every day to provide our community with outstanding patient care.”
The ACR is a national professional organization serving more than 36,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.
In August, it was announced that Baptist Health Corbin had been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as the result of a recent review by the ACR. MRI of the breast offers valuable information about many breast conditions that may not be obtained by other imaging modalities, such as mammography or ultrasound.
“We believe our patients deserve the best,” said Dr. Francie Masters, Baptist Health Medical Group Radiology.
William Lay, Director of Radiology Services added, “When you see our certificate of accreditation, you will know that ACR, an independent, professional medical society, has closely examined our facility and procedures. It means we, as an organization, care enough about our patients to strive for the highest level of care possible.”
The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Parameters and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field.
Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs are assessed. The findings are reported to the ACR Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report that can be used for continuous practice improvement.
The ACR, founded in 1924, is a professional medical society dedicated to serving patients and society by empowering radiology professionals to advance the practice, science and professions of radiological care.
Baptist Health Corbin is a 273-bed, acute care facility providing a wide variety of healthcare services.
