Tuesday Night Highlights: Volleyball district, soccer region results
Tuesday was a busy night for coverage area teams, with the finals of the 2022 50th District volleyball tournament being contested at Williamsburg High School and the Corbin boys soccer team playing in the first round of the 2022 KHSAA state championship tournament.
In Williamsburg, the Corbin Lady Hounds and the Whitley County Lady Colonels met up for the fourth time this season on the volleyball court. The Hounds defeated Williamsburg in round one of this year’s district volleyball tournament to earn their spot in the championship game, while the Colonels bested South Laurel to advance.
The title contest was competitive, as it typically is between these two squads, but in the end it was Whitley County who managed to pull out the 3-1 victory (25-21, 25-19, 15-25, 25-21). The district champs, now 21-14 on the year, will look to keep their positive momentum going in the upcoming 13th Region tournament. Corbin (19-10) will be back in the mix as well, also advancing to regional tournament play.
Meanwhile, in Tuesday soccer action, the Corbin Redhounds picked up a 4-1 victory over visiting Perry County Central to advance to the quarterfinals of this year’s KHSAA state championship tournament. The soccer Hounds, now 17-6-1, will travel to play Paul Laurence Dunbar in the next round of competition. That game is scheduled for this Saturday, Oct. 22.
