G&E crowned BURGer Week winner
G&E Burgers slogan is “best burgers in town,” and they’ve proved it after being crowned winner of Williamsburg’s inaugural BURGer Week event.
BURGer Week ran September 19 through 24, with G&E beating out competition from Copper Top Tap for the burger crown. During the week, G&E offered one of its many fan favorites, “The Breakup Burger,” which is a traditional cheeseburger with mayonnaise, tomato, grilled onions, bacon and an egg.
Copper Top Tap took second place with its “Bourbon Burger,” a custom creation made specifically for the event. The burger was sandwiched between two slices of Texas toast and smothered in Gouda cheese, grilled onions, banana peppers and topped with the restaurant’s signature bourbon sauce.
Moonbow Mercantile had originally been announced to be participating with a unique twist on the burger format, but ended up not competing, according to Williamsburg Main Street Manager Jonathan Wyatt.
An online survey form was created and shared on Facebook by the Williamsburg Main Street Program, who hosted the event.
Wyatt offered congratulations to G&E for winning and thanked all the restaurants for participating in the event. However, Wyatt did note that local participation was lower than expected and urged everyone to continue helping local restaurants by patronizing them when possible.
The event is expected to continue next year and hopefully with more restaurants, according to Wyatt.
