Davis selected as new Corbin Middle School Principal

A familiar saying is, “You can’t go home again,” but after two years as assistant principal at Corbin Primary School, Cynthia Davis will return to Corbin Middle School as the new principal.
Davis began her teaching career at the middle school in 2003. Over the next 10 years, she taught social studies, language arts and math, before moving to the primary school as assistant principal.
“I am just excited,” Davis said of returning to the middle school. “I have a love for the middle school. It was bitter sweet when I walked away.”
Davis said moving from the middle school to the primary school was familiar in some ways, including seeing the same families and seeing the teachers work hard.
As assistant principal and now principal, Davis said her job is the same in some respects, helping the teachers and students.
“The middle school concept is about building relationships,” Davis said. “To do that, you look to quickly build trust. You do that by going in there and being real with the students.”
Davis noted it is an exciting time at the middle school as planning continues on the new school.
“We made ballroom dancing work in the cafeteria and put pianos in different places to hold piano classes,” Davis said.
“Moving into a new building where these classes will have their own spaces can only enhance what we are doing. We will match on the outside, what we have been doing on the inside.”
Assistant Superintendent Dave Cox, said it was a very competitive process with 10 very good applicants for the position.
Cox said Davis’ experience at the middle school is one of the things that set her apart.
“She is a proven leader,” Cox added. “She has done a very good job at the primary school.”
Corbin Primary School Principal Travis Wilder, described Davis as a servant leader who understands what constitutes exemplary teaching.
“She is also gifted at setting goals and systematically working collaboratively with her staff toward achieving it,” Wilder said.
“Corbin Middle School has been a top performing middle school in the state of Kentucky and in my estimation, she will continue that record of academic and extra-curricular success.”
Assistant Superintendent Ramona Davis, who served as principal at the middle school while Cynthia Davis was teaching, noted that in her time in the classroom, she was rigorous but she developed great relationships with her students.
“Just keep the students’ needs in mind at all times,” Ramona Davis said when asked what advice she would offer to Cynthia Davis.
Cynthia Davis will be introduced to the students as the new principal during an assembly Tuesday morning.
Cynthia Davis was born and raised in the Flatlick community in eastern Knox County, graduating from Knox Central High School in 1994.
She earned her bachelor’s degree from Eastern Kentucky University and her Masters in Education from Union College.
She has been married for 20 years to Stanley Davis.
The couple has two children, 16-year-old Saryn and 11-year-old Tanner.
