We’ll see you at Trading Days, just not with a booth
Anyone who followed along with our recent NIBROC Festival activities knows that we had planned on also making an appearance with a booth at the 2022 Old Fashioned Trading Days Festival, taking place this Thursday-through-Saturday in downtown Williamsburg. However, due to circumstances beyond our control, we will unfortunately not be able to set the booth up this year.
My apologies to anyone who was maybe thinking of coming by, but one of our reporters, Timothy Wyatt, will be out for the remainder of the week as he takes care of some things at home after the unexpected passing of a family member earlier this week.
Our thoughts and prayers are certainly with Timothy during this difficult time.
While Timothy is away we will be a little short handed, so myself and Mark White will be making sure that everything gets covered, including Old Fashioned Trading Days. I may not be in a booth, but you will definitely see me walking around downtown a lot as I shoot pictures and talk to folks about the many events that are scheduled to take place in the coming days.
Since we won’t have a booth, though, I would like to go ahead and take this opportunity to remind everyone one last time that our Festival Subscription Special is still going on, and you have until September 14 to take advantage of it. We had several folks who signed up during NIBROC, and I hope see several more calling or mailing in during Old Fashioned Trading Days.
The special, which applies to both new subscribers and renewals, will give you a full year of local delivery (Corbin and Williamsburg) for just $38. That is 20 percent off the regular price, so be sure to sign up while you still can!
Other thoughts:
• I got to spend a little bit of time in the woods over the Labor Day weekend, taking my kids down to a campsite at the Sheltowee Trace Adventure Resort. It was our second time visiting this year, and although we got rained on, I am still glad that we got to enjoy a campfire and spend a little time together.
• On Labor Day, my wife’s grandfather, Jim Shackleford, was laid to rest with a very nice funeral service at Hart Funeral Home in Corbin.
Jim was one-of-a-kind, and I have yet to meet anyone who had anything but nice things to say about him. I know firsthand that he helped many, many people during his time here, including my wife and I.
Jim was president of TECO Coal for years, but more importantly, he was a great family man, and friend. He will be greatly missed.
