Woman wanted in connection with Montgomery Co. murder/robbery arrested in north Corbin
A woman wanted in connection with a 2011 murder and robbery in Montgomery County was arrested Thursday night in north Corbin.
According to Laurel County Sheriff John Root, acting on information from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s office, Laurel County Deputy Sgt. Robbie Grimes with deputies Charlie Johnson and Rick Cloyd arrested 30-year-old Natasha Martin of Clay City after locating her at a hotel off of Adams Road.
Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, the department’s public affairs officer, said Martin was taking into custody without incident.
Martin made no statements to deputies concerning the charges.
Martin is charged with murder and first-degree robbery stemming from a home invasion in which Paul Brewer was shot and killed.
Montgomery County Sheriff Fred Shortage told WKYT that he believes Brewer was murdered sometime over the night of Dec. 21 or the early morning of Dec. 22, 2011.
Deputies found Brewer’s body about 7:30 that morning after his sister called police when he failed to show up for a scheduled doctor’s appointment.
Brewer was found in bed with multiple gunshot wounds to the head.
Montgomery County investigators said it does not appear the perpetrator(s) forced their way into the home and that Brewer may have known his killer(s).
Shortage told WKYT that it appears four individuals, two men and two women, were involved in the incident.
Two men, Nickie Miller and Cody Hall, were arrested earlier this month in Powell County and have pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Martin is being held in the Laurel County Detention Center pending transport back to Montgomery County.
Under Kentucky law, prosecutors may seek the death penalty in a murder case if another violent crime such as robbery is committed at the same time.
The decision to seek the death penalty will be in the hands of the Montgomery County Commonwealth’s Attorney.
