W’burg couple facing child endangerment charges after family home found infested with roaches
A Williamsburg couple has been charged with endangering the welfare of a minor after Whitley County Sheriff’s deputies reported finding the family’s home infested with roaches and in otherwise deplorable conditions Wednesday.
Deputy Cody Harrell arrested 39-year-old Deanne Walker and 51-year-old James Walker after he was called to assist officials with the Kentucky Department of Community Based Services, Division of Protection of Permanency arrived at the family home on River Road to give the three children gifts and perform a home check.
“Upon arrival the social worker saw the parents of the children put the children in the car and leave in an attempt to avoid speaking to her,” Harrell stated.
Harrell and Deputy John Hill stopped the vehicle about a mile away on Red Bird Road.
At the request of the social worker, Harrell returned to the residence with the parents and social worker, finding it infested with roaches and cat urine present throughout.
Harrell reported seeing roaches crawling around boxed food and cooked food that was left sitting out on the stove.
Deanne and James Walker were each charged with one count of endangering the welfare of a minor and lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center.
Under Kentucky Law, endangering the welfare of a minor is a Class A misdemeanor, carrying a potential sentence of up to one year the county jail.
The children were taken into the custody of social workers.

I live in Madison county and have called the health dept. and social services about my neighbors that are living in the same conditions with children in the home. Neither of the agencies will enter the home to investigate. They have dogs, cats, rabbits and the home is so roach infested that the roaches are in mine and several other neighbors homes and yards. I have never seen a roach in my home until this year. Im just about to go crazy trying to deal with the situation. The exterminator told me I was fighting a losing battle until the neighbors with the problem follow the directions given by him. So far they have not done one thing the exterminator explained that needed to be done. I have already spent over $300.00 trying to allieviate the problem. The exterminator has a helper and they enter the home in shifts as they have to hold their breath because of the amonia smell. Who can I call that will actually do something to help the children in the home? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
LOLOLOL. Seriously??? Let them have some more kids and the welfare office will reward them with more food stamps and an increase in their AFDC check. Williamsburg welfare is a joke. Nothing will come of this except they get more stamps and mo ey for more kids. Who do they think they’re kidding???
