Baptist Health Corbin wins HANDS Award from Kentucky Hospital Association
Baptist Health Corbin (BHC) volunteers were recently recognized receiving the Helping Accomplish Noteworthy Duties Successfully (HANDS) Award at the 93rd Annual Kentucky Hospital Association (KHA) Convention in Louisville on May 19.
The KHA presents the HANDS awards to hospital volunteer and auxiliary groups that conduct outstanding projects and services to further support their healthcare systems and patients. This year, Baptist Health Corbin was recognized in the over-100 beds category with this award.
“I am so proud to be a part of this incredible volunteer team who give so much of themselves in service to our hospital, patients and visitors,” said BHC Volunteer Director, Debbie Hardin.
At the convention, KHA recognized the BHC volunteers for their “Splat Out Cancer” project that raised money for the cancer patients at Baptist Health Corbin.
The volunteers began this fundraiser to raise awareness of the many unmet needs of our cancer patients. Some of them were traveling several miles roundtrip daily for treatments and it was a financial hardship on them and their families.
The volunteers also supply a tote bag full of items that a patient might need for a long day of treatment including puzzle books, water, ChapStick and other items for comfort.
Baptist Health Corbin President Anthony Powers said he was thrilled to hear that the volunteers were recognized for their project.
“Our volunteers are passionate about their service and dedication to our patients, visitors and staff. We appreciate them so much,” Powers added.
Baptist Health Corbin is a 273-bed, acute care facility providing a wide variety of healthcare services to the residents of Whitley, Knox, Laurel, Bell, Clay, McCreary, Harlan and Campbell counties in Kentucky and Campbell County in Tennessee.
