Corbin City Commission approves promotion of Corbin firefighter
The Corbin City Commission unanimously approved the departure of two city employees and the promotion of another.

Firefighter Tyler Tye was promoted to lieutenant during the Corbin City Commission meeting Tuesday.
Alcoholic Beverage Control Administrator Clara Patterson announced her intent to retire in a letter to the commission.
Patterson joined the Corbin’s Code Enforcement office on May 29, 2007 and eventually took on the role of ABC Administrator.
“I must say you all have been family to me through the good times, sad times, fun times, and many other times that we have shared,” wrote Patterson in her retirement letter. “Our lives have intertwined in ways that only God can control.”
“I have enjoyed my years at the City of Corbin,” Patterson continued. “I have watched many people come and go, learned much from countless coworkers, and been blessed to work with the best of the best.”
Commissioner Allison Moore noted during the meeting that, “Clara sure will be missed.”
Patterson’s retirement is effective on Feb. 28.
The city commission also approved the letter of resignation submitted by Nicole Morris.
Morris serves as occupational collector and an ABC administrator.
“The journey has had its ups and downs,” said Morris. “I came into this job with coworkers and I am leaving with family.”
“The path God often places us on can be filled with uncertainties, but I am convinced that when he placed me here it was no coincidence,” said Morris. “I am so very, extremely grateful for the opportunities, lessons, the experience and the friendships I have gained along the way.”
Morris has been a member of the city government for four and a half years.
Her resignation is effective March 18.
In addition to approving the two departures, the city commission promoted Corbin Firefighter Tyler Tye to lieutenant.
Tye has been with the fire department for almost four years.
He was one of several firefighters to travel to Western Kentucky after tornadoes devastated the area in December.
“I couldn’t think of a more deserving person,” said Commissioner Seth Reeves.
Tye fills a position which has been vacant for two years, Corbin Fire Chief Barry McDonald told the commission.
In other business, the commission unanimously approved:
- Mayor Suzie Razmus’ signature on a 2021 Tree City USA Proclamation.
- A lease agreement with Volunteers of American Mid States, Inc. for an office space at City Hall.
- A declaration of surplus items from the Corbin Fire Department including two metal desks and a filing cabinet.
- A declaration of surplus items from the Corbin Police Department including numerous firearms.
- Authorization for the city attorney to draft an ordinance creating a historic preservation board.
