Corbin, Whitley County to face off Tuesday; Williamsburg gearing up for All ‘A’ Tournament
The Whitley County Lady Colonels will wrap up play in the Daytona Beach Sunshine Classic before returning home to face Corbin Tuesday night.
The Lady Colonels lost to Louisville Christian Academy Monday night, 61-26 before picking up the 59-2 win on Tuesday over Atlantic High School out of Florida.
“We played a really, really good basketball team,” Coach Sean Pigman said of Louisville Christian has one of the top point guards in Kentucky and three players over six feet tall.
Pigman noted that the Lady Colonels were down by two after the first quarter, but Louisville Christian went on a 12-0 run and then blew the game open from there.
“They keep the pressure up,” Pigman said. “They are going to do that to a lot of people.”
The Lady Colonels will close out the tournament on Thursday against Owsley County.
“We have got a lot of kids that are playing in new roles, so we are learning,” Pigman said. “But as far as the way we are playing, it has been pretty consistent.”
Whitley County will return from Florida to host Corbin on Tuesday night.
“We are going to worry about us,” Pigman said of facing the Lady Redhounds who are the top 13th Region team based on RPI.
Corbin Lady Redhounds
The Corbin Lady Redhounds’ winning streak has reached nine after they opened the Lake Cumberland Holiday Hoops Tournament in Pulaski County Monday night with a 73-40 win over Betsy Lane and defeated Smith County, Tennessee, 60-40.
Kallie Housley led the Lady Redhounds with 23 points in the win over Betsy Lane.
Shelby Stewart added 17 points and Bailey Stewart poured in 12.
Corbin closed out the Lady Redhound Christmas Bash last Wednesday with a 67-58 win over Danville.
Darcie Anderson had 21 points to lead the Lady Redhounds. Shelby Stewart added 15.
Corbin was scheduled to continue the tournament in Pulaski County with Tuesday against Smith County, Tennessee.
The Lady Redhounds will close out the tournament on Wednesday against Somerset.
Tipoff is set for 1:45 p.m.
Corbin will continue on the road, though closer to home next week.
On Monday, the Lady Redhounds will travel to Knox Central to face Bell County in the Kentucky Class 2A Section 7 Tournament.
Corbin will travel to Whitley County Tuesday night for its second 50th District game of the season.
The Lady Redhounds defeated Williamsburg, 74-17 on Dec. 17.
Williamsburg Lady Jackets
The Williamsburg Lady Jackets will open the Bill Perkins Holiday Classic Wednesday when they host Lynn Camp.
The Lady Jackets are returning to the floor for the first time since Dec. 20 looking to snap a three-game losing streak.
Williamsburg will wrap up the tournament at noon Thursday when it hosts Harlan.
The Lady Jackets will finish off the homestand Monday night when they host an opponent to be determined in the 13th Region All “A” Classic.
