Corbin City Commission recognizes Corbin football team

The Corbin City Commission recognized the Corbin Middle School Eighth Grade football team Monday after the team brought home its second state title in two years.
The team beat Paducah Middle School at East Jessamine High School to claim the title in November.
Corbin Mayor Suzie Razmus presented the team with the Corbin Colonel.
“We are so very proud of your team,” said Razmus.
During the special called meeting, the commission voted unanimously to allow Razmus to sign documents relating to an organization called Retail Strategies which helps cities determine possible new small retail businesses that could migrate to the area using data and analytics.
City Manager Marlon Sams asked the commission to approve sending himself, Razmus, and Corbin Downtown Manager and Tourism Director Maggy Monhollen to the organization’s academy in Alabama in February.
The cost would be approximately $13,000 for the one-day session, but the academy could be paid for using American Rescue Plan Act funds.
Retail Strategies would work with the city for a period of six months as a consultant.
The board ended the meeting by returning from a closed session for the purpose of discussing personnel, pending litigation, and/or the sale or purchase of real property.
City Attorney Bob Hammons announced no formal action was taken in closed session.
Commissioner Allison Moore promptly made a motion to authorize Sams to negotiate the purchase of a piece of real estate located at 402 East Engineer Street.
The motion was unanimously approved.
In other business, the commission unanimously:
- Approved the second reading of an ordinance which separates the code enforcement officer and building inspector positions.
- Approved the first reading of an ordinance naming a city road and associated right of way Commonwealth Spur.
