Williamsburg School Board approves second School Resource Officer
The Williamsburg Independent School District (WISD) Board of Education voted to unanimously approve a second school resource officer for the 2021-2022 school year during its monthly meeting on July 27.
The officer is part of the Williamsburg Police Department.
Williamsburg Superintendent Tim Melton said the board felt that it was a good opportunity to bring in a second officer.
School resource officers have worked within the school for several years, said Melton. They monitor the building and cameras and are visible to those both inside and outside of the building.
“He is another layer of protection,” said Melton.
The board also unanimously approved the creation of three Parent Involvement Liaison positions. There will be one position at each of the elementary, middle and high school levels.
The liaisons will help with the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) said Melton. They will help recruit parents, gather ideas that the PTO could work on and serve as another connection between the school and community.
The board also approved the following:
- A bond of depository with Forcht Bank and WISD for the 2021-2022 school year.
- Professional development (PD) stipend for teachers that exceed the 24-hour PD requirement must be approved by director of instruction and superintendent.
- An updated 2021-2022 salary schedules with the Parent Involvement Liaison and additional PD hours added.
- An agreement between Chelsey Tyree and WISD for occupational therapy services.
- An agreement between Reba Moore and WISD for psychological evaluations for 2021-2022 school year.
- An agreement between Cora and WISD for physical therapy for 2021-2022 school year.
- Participation in the Community Eligibility Program for free student lunches for the 2021-2022 school year.
