2021 football schedules released for local teams

Players won’t begin football practice until July 10, but schedules for the upcoming season are complete.

The Whitley County Colonels, who will be going into the first season under Coach Zeke Eier, will open the season Aug. 20 at Perry County Central.

Eier’s first game in front of the Whitley County faithful will be the First Priority Bowl on Aug. 27 against Corbin.
Whitley County will be back on the road on Sept. 3 against Harlan County.

On Sept. 17, the Colonels will begin a three-game home stand with Bell County, followed by Pulaski County on Sept. 24 and Collins on Oct. 1.

Whitley County will travel to Southwestern on Oct. 8 and play its final home game of the regular season on Oct. 15 against North Laurel.

On Oct. 22, the Colonels will line up against former Coach Jep Irwin at South Laurel, and then conclude the regular season on Oct. 29 with a trip to Danville.

Eier said Irwin had completed the schedule before leaving to take the head coaching job at South Laurel where he had previously coached.

“Our schedule will be a test and we are looking forward to it,” Eier said adding that the current roster is at about 40 players. “Right now, the kids are working extremely hard to be the best version of themselves and making us the best team we can be. We are worried about us and making us the best team we can be.”

Corbin will open the season at home on Aug. 20 against Rhea County, Tennessee, in the Pigskin Classic.

In addition to Whitley County, the Redhounds will travel to Pulaski County on Sept. 10, Knox Central on Oct. 8, and Lincoln County on Oct. 15.

The final road trip will take the Redhounds to northern Kentucky to face Campbell County on Oct. 29.

Corbin will be at home on Sept. 3 against Franklin County, Sept. 17 against Somerset, against Simon Kenton on Oct. 1, and welcome Wayne County on Oct. 22.

Coach Tom Greer said the current roster has 82 players.

Williamsburg will open the season on Aug. 21 as part of the Pigskin Classic in Corbin against Oneida, Tennessee.

On Oct. 27, the Jackets will travel to Middlesboro and go to Harlan on Oct. 8.

Williamsburg will play its home opener on Sept. 3 against Leslie County. Other home dates include Evangel Christian on

Sept. 10, Somerset on Sept. 24, Pineville on Oct. 15, and Lynn Camp on Oct. 22.

The Jackets will travel to Lexington on Oct. 1 to face Lexington Sayre, to Pineville on Oct. 15, and end the season on Oct. 29 with a trip to Perry County Central.

Coach Jerry Herron said the current roster has about 50 players.

“Spring practice went well,” Herron said. “We got a lot of work in.”

Lynn Camp, which also has a new coach with Mark Huddleston taking over for Allen Harris, will open its season at home on Aug. 29 against Jellico.

The Wildcats will hit the road on Aug. 27 to Frankfort, and then return home on Sept. 3 to face Clay County.

Lynn Camp will be back on the road on Sept. 10 against Middlesboro and Jackson County on Sept. 17.

The Wildcats will welcome Cumberland Gap, Tennessee, on Sept. 24, and then take a week off before traveling to Pineville.

Harlan will come calling on Oct. 15, and then the annual Class A rivalry game at Williamsburg.

Lynn Camp will finish up the regular season at home against McCreary Central on Oct. 29.
Huddleston said the schedule was already in place when he was hired on March 27.

The Wildcats have about 25 players who have turned out for spring practice and conditioning.

“We’ll know more when things become mandatory in July,” Huddleston said.
