UPDATE: Barbourville man dies from gunshot wounds sustained in Wednesday ‘road rage’ shooting incident in north Corbin
UPDATE: A Barbourville man died from gunshot wounds he sustained Wednesday afternoon in what Laurel County Sheriff’s deputies are describing as a “road rage” incident in north Corbin.
Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, the department’s public affairs officer, identified the victim as Jack Davis, 40.
Davis had been taken by ambulance to Baptist Health Corbin for treatment of what were initially described as, “life threatening injuries.”
Deputies had been called to the scene on Hanes Baker Road, off of U.S. 25, at approximately 3:30 p.m.
Upon further investigation, Acciardo said deputies learned that words had been exchanged between the drivers of a pickup truck and SUV at the intersection of U.S. 25E and U.S. 25. Davis was identified as the driver of the SUV.
“Allegedly the driver of the SUV (Davis) exited his vehicle and a confrontation between the two drivers resulted in shots being fired from the driver of the pickup truck leaving the SUV’s driver seriously injured from multiple gunshot wounds,” Acciardo stated.
The pickup truck driver was not injured.
Acciardo said investigators recovered two semiautomatic pistols at the scene.
No criminal charges have yet been filed.
Acciardo said Laurel County Sheriff’s Lt. Chris Edwards will present the results of the death investigation to a Laurel County grand jury who will then determine whether charges are warranted.

“We don’t know where the incident began, but it wound up on Hanes Baker Road off of U.S. 25,” said Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, the department’s public affairs officer.
Acciardo said deputies and emergency personnel were called to the scene, which is located about 10 miles south of London, at approximately 3:32 p.m.
Acciardo said he did not have the name or any identifying characteristics of the victim or anyone else involved at this time.
However, the two vehicles involved include a pickup truck and a small SUV.
“There were multiple people in one vehicle. I’m not sure about the other vehicle,” Acciardo said when asked how many people were involved.
Deputies have cleared the scene, but Acciardo said they are currently conducting interviews with multiple people at the sheriff’s office in London.
“We are interviewing and piecing things together,’ Acciardo said noting it remains unknown whether this was a case of self-defense, or if charges will be filed.
Lt. Chris Edwards along with detectives and deputies are investigating the shooting.
Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County transported the victim to the the hospital for treatment.
