Alice Taylor Chitwood

Alice Taylor Chitwood, 98, went to be with the Lord on November 24, 2018.

She was one of eleven children. Alice worked as a telephone operator in Oak Ridge during the war and retired from working at her sister’s store in Jellico.

She loved her town and the people in it. She was the oldest member of her church, Church of God, Mountain Assembly. Over the years she loved to serve in Women’s ministry and other church activities. She loved to travel, sew, cook and spend time with her family. You would always be well fed and cared for at her home. She loved spending time with friends and family, especially on the porch.

She was the matriarch of our family and will be dearly missed.

Alice was preceded in death by her mother and father, James Daniel and Isabell Taylor; daughter and son in law, Carolyn and Bobby Herron and son, David Chitwood and 10 siblings.

She is survived by four grandchildren; Gail Stonecipher and husband Doug of Huntsville, Tn, Tim Herron of Norwood, Oh, Ben Chitwood and wife Holly of Lexington, Ky, Roxanna Chitwood of Nashville, Tn; daughter in law Betty J Chitwood of Jellico; four great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren and a host of other family and dear friends.

The funeral was held November 29th at the Church of God, Mountain Assembly in Jellico with the Rev. Scott Landes, Rev. Michael Padgett and Rev. Ray Landes officiating. Interment was held November 30th at the Jellico Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Church of God, Mountain Assembly (256 N. Florence Ave, Jellico, Tn 37762).
