Corbin man facing 18 charges after chase with KSP trooper

Stanley Kidd is facing 18 charges after a motorcycle chase with Kentucky State Police.

A Corbin man is facing over a dozen charges in connection with a short high-speed motorcycle chase Sunday evening.

Kentucky State Police Trooper Jeremy Elliotte charged Stanley Wayne Kidd, 31, with 18 criminal offenses, including: speeding 25 mph over the limit, reckless driving, second-offense operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol/drugs, two counts of first-degree fleeing or evading police, resisting arrest, and first-degree wanton endangerment in addition to several other offenses, most of which are traffic related.

Kidd is being held in the Whitley County Detention Center in lieu of a $10,000 cash bond in connection with the case.

About 7:51 p.m. Sunday, Elliotte observed Kidd operating a 1997 Suzuki VS800 motorcycle on Highway 511 at a high rate of speed, according to an arrest citation.

When Kidd saw the marked police cruiser, he allegedly accelerated and passed a motorist in a no pass zone then immediately turned right onto Tidal Wave Road, the citation stated.

The motorist, who was forced to pull to the right side of the roadway in order to safely avoid the motorcycle, later told police that he had two small children in the vehicle both of which were scared by the accused as he passed them at a high rate of speed

Elliotte activated his emergency lights and siren in an attempt to stop the motorcycle on Tidal Wave Road, but the motorcycle failed to stop continuing at a high rate of speed, the citation stated.

“After traveling a short distance the accused attempted to make a right onto Slusher Cemetery Road where he lost control of his motorcycle and traveled into the ditch,” Elliotte wrote. “The accused jumped back onto his feet and traveled on foot over a wire fence into a wooded area.”

Elliotte chased Kidd on foot for several hundred yards. Kidd allegedly jumped another wire fence and proceeded back across Tidal Wave Road, a citation stated.

Elliotte caught Kidd a short distance down the roadway as he was trying to crawl under another fence, and he was soon handcuffed and arrested without incident about 7:53 p.m., according to an arrest citation.

Kidd allegedly had large, dilated pupils and visible track marks on his arms. He struggled to walk and was slurring his words, Elliotte wrote.

Elliotte transported Kidd to Baptist Health Corbin where Kidd declined to provide a blood sample for toxicological testing, a citation stated.

Kidd was medically cleared at the hospital, and then lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center.
